ROCHELLE — Hundreds of young baseball and softball players gathered around the Major League diamond at Floyd J. Tilton Park on Saturday to celebrate the 2019 season as part of the annual Rochelle Little League Opening Day Ceremony.
Over 30 teams took the field for the ceremony, which began with league president Ryan Andrist recognizing each team individually. Members of VFW Post 3878 came together on the pitcher’s mound to bear flags as Rochelle Township High School student Madison Jozefowicz sung the national anthem.
The ceremony concluded with former Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson throwing the ceremonial first pitch before the traditional T-shirt toss and home run derby featuring coaches from various teams. Hicks BBQ catered this year’s event.
