ROCHELLE ⏤ Saturday’s Reconnecting in Rochelle event at VFW Park welcomed new and old residents for a community picnic.
The event and a committee came to be after conversations among the Facebook group Rochelle, IL Friends and Neighbors. There were information packets for new residents.
“The whole day was pretty amazing,” Susie Land, who’s part of the Reconnecting in Rochelle Committee, said. “We had water balloons, popsicles, hamburgers, hot dogs and lots of guests.
Representatives from Chicagoland Skydiving Center, The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District and the Rochelle Fire Department were on hand to greet residents.
Rochelle Mayor John Bearrows was on-hand at the event.
"I just want to say thanks to the group that put together the new resident picnic this last Saturday,” Bearrows said. “It was a warm day, but well-attended. I'm very appreciative of all the local folks who pitched in and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs and had a chance to speak to new residents who were in attendance and it was a very good turnout. It was a great day. Thanks to everybody that did it.”
Land said another event is planned by the committee on Saturday, Oct. 23 with a fall Halloween twist. A committee meeting will be held the second week of August.
