OREGON – The Judicial Center annex, the name for the new Ogle County jail, will have a ribbon cutting and open house on Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m.
The 154-bed facility will house both male and female inmates. The building, which broke ground in April 2019, is about 41,000 square feet. It is located on Sixth Street and Illinois Route 64
The project cost is projected to be $23 million, which is under budget, according to Don Griffin, chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and an Ogle County Board member.
He said there could still be further savings as the project wraps up. The facility is expected to be up and operational by the middle of December.
The project includes a Sally port that will connect the new jail with the Judicial Center, allowing for the safe transportation of inmates. That feature led to tension between the City of Oregon and the county, as the city of Oregon had to agree to close a portion of Sixth Street for the project.
