OGLE COUNTY — Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police responded to a snowmobile accident in Ogle County on Saturday evening.
The accident Feb. 20 at Illinois Route 64 and South Church Road, occurred at 6:25 p.m.
According to the report from IDNR, a group of four snowmobilers were riding on the public trail headed east out of Chana toward Rochelle at 6:25 p.m. A single snowmobile accident occurred resulting in the operator being air lifted by Life Flight to OSF Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford. The injured was identified as Jacob Messer, 31, of Rochelle. According to IDNR, Messer was transported from the scene by Life Flight for treatment of severe head injuries and a broken pelvis after striking a snow embankment and rolling his snowmobile.
Two of the other snowmobile operators riding with Messer were arrested for operation of a snowmobile while under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor of the accident.
Arrested for OUI were Shawn J. Henry, 34, of Davis Junction, and Justin K. Medine, 34, of Rochelle.
The accident is under investigation by IDNR Conservation Police.
