Rotary donates to school libraries

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Rotary Club President and Flagg-Rochelle Public Library District Director Sarah Flanagan presented three donations to school libraries in town last week.

Rotary donated $1,500 to Rochelle Township High School’s library for library media center materials and to supply books for students to build their own personal book collections at home. Students from Danae White’s freshman reading class were on hand to receive the donation and hear from Flanagan about Rotary.

RTHS Librarian Ann Marie Jinkins said she uses First Book Marketplace to help guide book choices and welcomes student input as well.

Rotary donated $500 to the library at Tilton School to purchase Spanish and dual language materials. The school has a very small collection for fourth and fifth graders at this time.

"The Tilton School Library is in a growing stage with the addition of the dual language program,” Tilton Librarian Suzie Gerber said. “We are so appreciative of this donation from Rotary, so we can add in more books printed in Spanish."

Rotary made a $1,000 donation for books at the Rochelle Middle School library.

"These books will be available for the entire student body to enjoy and will certainly be read,” RMS Librarian Sue Golden said. “As always, we really, really appreciate Rochelle Rotary’s support of reading at RMS and at all of the other schools in our district."

Flanagan said reading is a gift that needs to be treasured in the community.

“All students need to learn the importance of reading and learning,” Flanagan said. “Rotary is proud to be able to support our school libraries and the students in our diverse community."
