SHABBONA — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team faced Indian Creek on the road Friday evening, conceding a 6-2 loss in nonconference action. Junior Lauren Dyer started in the circle for the Lady Hubs (2-3, 0-0 Interstate 8), throwing four innings while striking out seven batters. Freshman Emma Heller struck out five batters in two innings of relief in the loss.
Indian Creek took a 1-0 lead after Emily Frazier singled and scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning. Rochelle recovered with two runs in the top of the second inning, where seniors Ella Alfano and Kendell Frankenberry each drew walks and scored to put the Lady Hubs ahead 2-1. Gretta Oziah slapped an RBI double to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning.
An RBI single from Taylor Hulmes sparked a three-run frame from the Timberwolves in the bottom of the fifth inning, where Indian Creek surged ahead 5-2 before adding one run on two singles and an RBI double from Bella Klotz in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rochelle finished with four hits in the loss, three of which came from freshmen including Jaclynn Lira, Camryn Metzger and Briel Metzger. Dyer added a single in the top of the third inning.
