ROCHELLE – Last year the Rochelle community came together to sponsor wreaths on all 156 known veterans’ graves at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
This year the Rochelle Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution is again coordinating the placement of wreaths as part of the national Wreaths Across America program.
“In addition to placing wreaths at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, we are also accepting grave specific wreath sponsorships at Lawnridge, Trinity and other local cemeteries,” Lydia Roberts of the DAR said. “Wreaths may be sponsored to decorate graves at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in honor of an active duty service member, a living veteran or a deceased veteran, even if they are interred elsewhere.”
Last year’s ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Girl Scout Troop 1168, the National Anthem performed by Daughters of the American Revolution member Debbie Katzman and a presentation of opening remarks followed by the presentation of the wreathes for each of the branches of the military.
Order forms can be picked up at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or submitted online at wreathsacrossamerica.org/IL0136P. Wreath sponsorships vary from $15 to $150.
The deadline for the DAR to receive wreath sponsorship orders is Monday, Nov. 30.
The ceremony will be held on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. An abbreviated ceremony will take place at Lawnridge Cemetery after the conclusion of the wreath laying at St. Patrick’s.
