PEORIA — Nearly 200 high school cross country teams competed in the First to the Finish Invitational at Detweiller Park this past Saturday, and the Rochelle Hubs and Lady Hubs were eager to join in on the action.

Junior Katherine Bakken turned in her best performance of the season thus far, finishing 42nd out of 479 runners in the 3-mile race and medaling with a personal-best time of 19:03. Bakken’s stellar outing came just days after taking the individual girls title at the Oregon 7 Person Invitational this past Wednesday.

Senior Morgan Baker stepped up for the Lady Hubs, who placed 37th out of 56 girls teams at the invitational. Baker finished 166th with a time of 20:49, while senior Hannah Cruz placed 203rd with a time of 21:15 after missing the first part of the season to an injury. Junior Anne Hickey clocked in at 22:17 for 291st place to round out Rochelle’s top four girls on Saturday.

Sophomore Santi Cordoba set a personal record with a time of 18:20 to lead the Hubs, placing 314th out of 492 boys. Cordoba was one of four runners who took the field for the Rochelle boys team, with sophomore Tucker Louis placing 363rd with a time of 18:44 and sophomore Diego Escobar taking 410th with a time of 19:30. Sophomore Ben Hickey finished 431st with a time of 20:04.

Rochelle will return to action for its first home meet of the year on Thursday, Sept. 14 at Skare Park. The meet will begin at 4:15 p.m.
