ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team hosted Mendota on Thursday for its final regular season match. Rochelle recognized its six senior players and three senior managers, but the Hubs were unable to secure them a victory, falling 8-1 and dropping to 9-11 overall.
The seniors honored on Thursday include Josue Orozco, Bryce Whitehead, Caleb Ritter, Michael Ramsey, Carlos Morales, Johnavon Hueramo, Lizbeth Milan, Ceci Vargas and Alani Perez.
“Our seniors are good group of guys and it’s always a hard time of the season,” head coach Brad Male said. “Our seniors have given great effort this season and I’m hoping they’ll continue giving everything they have for the rest of the season and the rest of their senior year.”
The undefeated Trojans went up on the Hubs early, scoring goals in the seventh minute and the 12th minute before dominating the end of the first half, netting goals during the 25th, 30th, 35th, 36th and 39th minutes to lead Rochelle 7-0 at halftime. The Hubs avoided the shutout early in the second half, with Orozco sending a left-footed ball into the Mendota net for the team’s first and only score of the night.
Rochelle will face Kaneland in the IHSA 2A Regional Semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The match will be at Burlington Central.
“We knew Mendota would come in a play tough,” Male said. “We weren’t able to get anything going tonight but I think Mendota’s playing really good soccer right now. I don’t think there’s any surprise for what we need to go against Kaneland. We need to execute our passes quicker and we have a habit of dribbling the ball too much. That has cost us some goals against them.”
Dixon
The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team defeated Dixon on the road Tuseday, winning 3-1 to move to 9-10 overall. Junior Jace Whitehead, sophomore Eli Luxton and freshman Alberto Casillas each notched goals for the Hubs, while senior Bryce Whitehead had two assists. Junior Nolan Fonfara totaled one assist and junior Jarett Milan finished with nine saves for Rochelle.
Marmion
The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team fell 4-1 against Marmion Academy on the road Monday evening, dropping to 8-10 overall. Sophomore Diego Salazar scored the lone Rochelle goal.
