ROCHELLE — The winter sports season at Rochelle Township High School has entered full storm as the girls bowling team hosted the Morris Redskins at T-Byrd Lanes on Monday for the program’s first match of the 2019-20 season.
Sophomores Alyssa Schwanert and Alyssa Mickley led the charge for the Lady Hubs, who were unable to claim any games in their 2,739-2,093 loss against the Redskins. Schwanert rolled a team-high 478 series with a high game of 188 for Rochelle, while Mickley fired a 445 series and a high game of 171. The Lady Hubs dropped to 0-1 overall with the loss.
Morris opened the match with an 886-723 victory over Rochelle in the first game. The Redskins hit their peak in the second game, topping the 1,000-pin threshold to defeat the Lady Hubs 1,032-776 and extend their lead despite Schwanert’s 188 and sophomore Anna Samo’s 152. Both teams struggled near the end, with Morris winning the third game 821-594 to sweep the match.
Kaneland
The Rochelle girls bowling team is still seeking its first win of the season after falling by a score of 2,410-2,031 against the Kaneland Knights on Wednesday. The Lady Hubs are now 0-2 overall.
Junior Kiya Porter rolled 173 for Rochelle in the opening game, which Kaneland took 784-632. Senior Cassie Moore stepped up with 149 in the middle game, but the Lady Hubs fell short as the Knights won the game 866-723 before closing the match with a 760-676 victory in the third game. Sophomore Alyssa Schwanert fired 175 in the final game to record a team-high 400 series for the Lady Hubs. Porter added a 394 series.
