ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs sent senior Cassie Moore off with a victory when the Rochelle girls bowling team hosted the Ottawa Pirates for Senior Night on Tuesday.
Behind sophomore Alyssa Schwanert’s team-high 481 series, the Lady Hubs took the first two games and held on to win the overall series by a score of 2,185-2,163. Rochelle (3-11) led Ottawa by 39 pins entering the final game, and while the Pirates outrolled the Lady Hubs 690-673 during the third game, Rochelle’s early advantage was enough for the victory. The Lady Hubs have now won three of their last four matches after starting the season 0-10.
“Cassie’s been a lot of fun to have on the team,” head coach Joey Johanning said. “She brings a good attitude to the team and she brings a very light-hearted demeanor. She’s a very fun and hard-working bowler overall. She’s our lone senior and it was nice to give her some extra recognition tonight. We’ll definitely miss her.”
Sophomore Alyssa Mickley fired 164 to lead Rochelle over Ottawa 754-733 in a close first game, despite McKenzie Lewis rolling 176 for the Pirates. Schwanert stepped up for the Lady Hubs in the second game, throwing a match-best 207 and tilting the scale in Rochelle’s favor as the girls topped Ottawa 758-740. Michaela Boaz recorded 166 and Lewis added 152 on the Ottawa side.
“We’ve definitely been picking up more spares and I’ve seen a lot more consistency there,” Johanning said. “The meet was close and we only won by a small amount, so the more spares we can pick up, the more likely we are to pick up the win.”
Lewis shot 181 in the third game to end the evening with a match-leading 509 series. Tuesday marked the second time Rochelle has beaten Ottawa this season.
