BELVIDERE — The Hubs varsity soccer team is off to a hot start this season, and junior Jessee Infante is a big reason why Rochelle has opened the year with four straight victories.
Infante scored three of Rochelle’s four goals against the Belvidere Bucs on Monday, with senior Jesus Nava adding one goal in a 4-0 nonconference win. Junior Mason DeLille totaled 10 saves to record his second shutout of the season.
“We were just playing the ball and trying to get a feel for it,” Infante said. “We started gaining momentum… We’ve been playing together since we were little, and we all know how to play together. We all like to play with each other.”
Junior Ruben Herrera, sophomore Max Torres and freshman Brayan Orozco each recorded one assist for the Hubs, who entered this season looking to prove that youth doesn’t always mean inexperience. Infante said earlier this year that his team had a chip on its shoulder, and the junior attacker reaffirmed that statement after the victory.
“It’s there until the season ends,” Infante said. “We haven’t proven anything until we’ve won more games than we did last season.”
