STERLING — The Lady Hubs varsity softball team dropped a pair of tough games to Sterling and Hononegah this past Saturday, falling to the Golden Warriors by a score of 12-2 before losing to the Indians 12-1 to drop to 1-11 on the season. The girls will play Morris at home on Tuesday.

Sterling

The Golden Warriors took a 4-0 lead on the Lady Hubs after the second inning before Rochelle struck back with two runs in the top of the third to cut the Sterling lead in half. Both runs came courtesy of senior Christina Payton, who had one RBI in the team’s loss to LaSalle-Peru.

But the Golden Warriors proved to be too tough at the plate, tacking on three runs in the bottom of the second and five runs over the next two innings to put the game out of reach. Senior Paige Myroth and junior Faith Roush each recorded hits for Rochelle.

Hononegah

Six Lady Hubs notched at least one hit in Rochelle’s loss to Hononegah, with Roush going 2-for-3 and senior Jaelyn Kammes going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Senior Jovana DeLaTorre and juniors Teddi Hacaga, Britney Salinas and Jessie Meyers were responsible for the other hits.

The Indians held a 1-0 lead after the second inning, but they added on seven runs over the next two innings before Rochelle scored its only run to make it an 8-1 game. Hononegah scored two runs in each of the last two innings.

Sophomores

The Lady Hubs sophomore softball team fell to Sterling by a score of 17-8 before dropping a close match to Hononegah 12-7. Becca Bunger and Molly Harrison combined to do most of the damage for Rochelle, going 11-for-14 at the dish.
