Little League: 8-10 Baseball All-Stars dominate Freeport

Rochelle opens District 19 Championship tourney with 15-1 win

ROCK FALLS — Rochelle Little League’s 8-10 Baseball All-Stars started strong in the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship at Wallingford Park on Monday, defeating Freeport by a score of 15-1 to reach the second round. John Chadwick, Connor Lewis and Connor Hunley combined to hold Freeport to only one hit in the victory.

Lewis singled and scored when Jonathan Andrist reached on an error in the top of the first inning. Leading 1-0, Rochelle scored three runs in the second inning to go ahead 4-0. Chadwick’s RBI groundout plated Luke Dickey, and Andrist’s RBI single scored Lewis. Bobby Tourdot walked and scored on a passed ball.

Rochelle added five runs in the third inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Tourdot drew a bases-loaded walk for one RBI before Andrist cleared the bases with a three-run triple to right-center field. Warren Schweitzer singled to right and scored Andrist.

Rochelle sealed the win with six runs in the top of the fourth inning before Freeport avoided the shutout with one run in the bottom of the frame.
