GENOA — The Rochelle Rays capped off the 2017 swim season on a high note Thursday evening, defeating the Genoa Gators to end the summer on a three-meet winning streak.

The Rochelle girls outscored the Genoa girls 204-142, while the Rochelle boys topped the Genoa boys 226-119. The Rays combined to take down the Gators by a final score of 438-262.

“The goal of our team is to provide every swimmer with an opportunity to improve his or her swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to skilled competitor,” head coach Marianne Swanson said. “I’m looking forward to 2018.”

Nine Rochelle swimmers joined forces to break four team records on Thursday, with the Rays’ total number of records set in 2017 increasing to 17. “It was truly an amazing season,” Swanson said.

Two Rochelle swimmers competed in their final swim meet of their respective careers on Thursday, with Josh Bunger and Levi Johnson set to move on and take the next step in their academic and athletic careers after graduating high school earlier this summer.

“I am so thankful for their leadership, sportsmanship, and work ethic,” Swanson said. “These two young men are what's right with the youth of today.”
