STERLING — With the Rochelle Hubs and the Sterling Golden Warriors set to meet in the IHSA Class 3A Regional Semifinals, Thursday’s conference series finale served as a potential preview of what’s to come in the future.
Unfortunately for the purple and white, it’s a finale they’d like to forget.
After a pair of tough losses on Monday and Tuesday to begin the three-game set, the Hubs went hitless and scoreless at Sterling on Thursday, falling to the Golden Warriors by a score of 6-0 to move to 9-11-1 on the season with three games remaining.
Two Hubs reached base in the loss, with senior Cristian Burciaga drawing a walk in the first inning and senior Sam Christensen reaching on an error in the third inning. Sterling broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third with three runs, and the Golden Warriors added three more in the fourth inning to take control of the finale.
Rochelle will play a doubleheader with the Plano Reapers this weekend before taking on the Dixon Dukes in it’s final regular season game Tuesday, May 16. The Hubs will then have 10 days to rest before hosting Sterling for their regional semifinal contest on Thursday, May 25 at 4 p.m.
