The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team improved to 7-1 on the season Thursday evening, defeating both the Morris Redskins and the Pontiac Indians on the road. Rochelle will host a nonconference triangular meet with Polo and North Boone this weekend.

MORRIS — The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team improved to 7-1 on the season Thursday evening, defeating both the Morris Redskins and the Pontiac Indians on the road. Rochelle will host a nonconference triangular meet with Polo and North Boone this weekend.

Morris

The Hubs took down the Redskins 48-31 for their third consecutive Interstate 8 victory. Rochelle improved to 3-0 in the conference with the win. Freshmen Tommy Tourdot and Riley Damask received forfeits at 106 and 113 pounds, while sophomore Weldon Nay took a forfeit at 126 pounds.

Senior Grant Thompson and junior Caleb Nadig  each secured six points at their respective weight classes. Thompson took down and pinned Cameron Skoll at 138 pounds, while Nadig recorded two takedowns before pinning Milton Mondragon at 145 pounds.

Freshman Leo Stoffel battled into the third period against Ethan Morrissey, pinning him to win the 170-pound bout. Senior Ben Harvey totaled four takedowns and a near fall against Brady Brown at 182 pounds, pinning him for six more Rochelle points. Sophomore Jaden Cook received a forfeit at 285 pounds.

Pontiac

Rochelle cruised over the Indians 65-18 in nonconference competition. The Hubs opened the match with 41 consecutive points behind forfeits for Tommy Tourdot (106), senior Ivan Pineda (113), sophomore Josey Weber (120), Weldon Nay (126), sophomore Wesley Brown (132) and Thompson (138). Nadig scored Rochelle’s first pin of the match, winning the 145-pound bout behind five takedowns and two near falls.

Leo Stoffel and Ben Harvey combined for four takedowns and two pins across the 170-pound and 182-pound bouts, with both boys winning to score 12 points for the Hubs. Senior Noah Messer took down and pinned his opponent to win the 220-pound bout before Jaden Cook wrapped the match up with two takedowns and two near falls to claim the 285-pound victory.
