At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School Board of Education unanimously rejected bids for an upcoming detention pond reconstruction project due to a change in the scope of the work.

Kishwaukee College nursing students were honored during a pinning ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, at the College. Kish recognized 23 students for completing the Registered Nursing program and presented each graduate with a special pin before family and friends during the ceremony.

Celebrate Memorial Day at the Flagg Township Museum on Sunday, May 26 at 1 p.m. Tom McDermott will be showcasing stories and memorabilia about local veterans who have died while serving in the military.

On May 17 at 3:48 p.m. John Ray C. Mamaed, 38, of Malta was cited for speeding 50 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone. He signed a promise to comply and  was given a June 7 Rochelle court date.

On May 16 at approximately 12:29 p.m. Oregon Fire and EMS, Byron Fire and EMS, Oregon Police, and Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single semi-tractor and trailer rollover accident in the 1,000 block of West Pines Road with an injury. Upon arrival, deputies learned a blue Kenworth semi-tractor was traveling westbound on Pines Road while pulling a flatbed trailer with pallets. As the Kenworth was negotiating a curve, it traveled off the north side of the roadway before overcorrecting and returning within its lane. The Kenworth again traveled off the north side of the roadway and into the ditch before partially striking two ComEd poles and overturning on its top. The Kenworth traveled approximately 600 feet off the roadway before coming to rest. The driver and single occupant of the Kenworth was pronounced deceased at the scene and was identified as Jason Smith, 40, of Marinette, Wisconsin. The road was closed for several hours due to the accident. The accident remains under investigation.

St. Paul Lutheran School recently released its honor roll information for the fourth quarter of the 2023-2024 school year.

Disaster struck in the bottom of the sixth inning on Monday, when the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team was just six outs away from an IHSA 3A Regional Quarterfinal win.

Before taking the court as a member of the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team, junior outside hitter Taelynn Rodeghero was a successful gymnast during her childhood, regularly competing in state-level events throughout her grade-school and middle-school years.

The St. Paul Lutheran School track and field team earned the sixth-place trophy during the 2024 Lutheran State Championships at Concordia University Chicago over the weekend.

On Thursday, the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Dinner at the hangar at the Rochelle Municipal Airport. 

The Rochelle Police Department was on-site at Dunkin' Donuts on Friday raising money with its annual ‘Cop on Rooftop’ promotion for Special Olympics Illinois.

On May 14 at around 10:37 p.m. deputies conducted a motorist assist in the area of West Coffman Road and North Baileyville Road. After brief investigation, it was learned that the driver of the vehicle, Jeffrey Phen, 45 of Rockford, was driving while license suspended. It was also learned that Phen was wanted out of Ogle and Stephenson counties for driving while license suspended and a traffic offense. Phen was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he will be held pending an appearance in front of a judge. Phen was additionally cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District conducted a public hearing concerning its intent to sell $4 million in working cash fund bonds related to upcoming work at Tilton Elementary School.

On May 14 at 7:14 a.m. William J. Schorsch, 59, of Rochelle was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant and transferred.

Drive through any community in Illinois and you’re sure to see the orange cones and blinking lights of a road construction zone. You might also see crews building a new restaurant, bank, or gas station. And in many communities, you’ll see the cranes and earthmovers building a new manufacturing facility, data center, or electric vehicle assembly plant. But even amid all this construction, it’s less common, rare even, to spot a new home or subdivision being built.

Rochelle Township High School held its 2024 Athletic Signing Day Ceremony on Thursday afternoon. Twelve student-athletes participated in the ceremony, while two more were unable to attend.

A breakout showing from the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team resulted in its best offensive output of the season as well as its most lopsided victory of the season Thursday evening, when the purple and white concluded the regular season against the Harvard Hornets.

While Plano and Rochelle were opponents on the diamond Wednesday evening, the two varsity softball teams were united off the diamond in their efforts to combat cancer. 

The Roberts Armory World War II Museum will be open to the public on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 from 1-4 p.m.
