The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team returned to its home court for a nonconference match against Freeport on Monday evening, falling to the Pretzels 5-0.

The Forge Wrestling Club sent several athletes to the 2024 Wheeling Wildcat Freestyle tournament on Sunday. Nine athletes from the Rochelle area competed in the event.

The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team traveled to Pretzel Stadium for the annual Freeport Invitational on Friday evening, finishing fourth out of five teams with 47 points.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team brought home its first Interstate 8 Conference win of the season on Friday evening, when the purple and white hit the road and swept all three of their doubles matches during their match against the Kaneland Knights.

The Rochelle Hub track and field team hosted the 47th Annual Hub Relays at Rochelle Township High School on Saturday afternoon, finishing third out of eight schools with 101 total points.

Senior shortstop Brock Metzger went 2-for-2 with one double, three runs and three RBIs on Saturday afternoon, when the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak and scored a much-needed victory against Rockford Guilford.

Junior Lauren Dyer looked like an ace in the circle when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team hosted its nonconference game against Forreston on Friday evening.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team concluded its Interstate 8 Conference series against Sycamore, with the purple and white suffering an 8-1 loss in a rain-shortened contest and conceding the series sweep against the Spartans.

Senior forward Sydney Thorne scored a second-half goal to help the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team avoid an Interstate 8 shutout against Morris on Thursday.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution of intent to issue $4 million in working cash fund bonds related to upcoming work at Tilton Elementary School.

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board heard an engineering update from Village President Rick Rhoads. The village has a number of ongoing engineering-related projects including a water main project, a lead service line inventory, and this summer's chip seal work. 

The Vince Carney Community Theater will present its production of “Leaving Iowa” on Friday, April 19 & 26 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 20 & 27 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

Kishwaukee College seated Aiyanna Washington as the new student trustee on the College’s Board of Trustees at the April meeting. Washington was elected by her peers to the position and took over the role of outgoing Student Trustee Perla Gonzales.

Rochelle Township High School’s Cash Budde was recently named as the recipient of the Rochelle Rotary Service Above Self Award for March.

On April 9 at 3:54 p.m. Michael N. Thornhill, 36, of Rochelle was arrested on an outstanding DeKalb County warrant and transferred.

On April 10 at approximately 1 p.m., deputies responded to a pedestrian-versus-vehicle accident in the 10,000 block of West Pines Road in rural Polo.  After an investigation it was determined that David Stouffer, 69, of Polo was walking to the mailbox and entered the roadway disregarding oncoming traffic.  Stouffer was struck by a vehicle being driven by Lucy Chamberlain, 75, of Dixon. Stouffer was transported to KSB Hospital for injuries sustained. 

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team concluded its Interstate 8 Conference season series against Sycamore on Wednesday, falling 9-0 and suffering its seventh consecutive loss. 

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team continued its Interstate 8 Conference series against Sycamore on Wednesday, scoring the first two runs but committing seven total errors in a 19-2 loss to the Spartans.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team continued Interstate 8 Conference action against Sycamore on Wednesday, falling 5-0 on the road with all five losses coming in straight sets.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team suffered a no-hit shutout at the hands of LaSalle-Peru on Wednesday evening, when the purple and white fell to the Cavaliers 10-0 in Interstate 8 Conference action.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team served up its first Interstate 8 Conference match of the season on Tuesday evening, falling 5-0 against the Morris Redskins despite taking two matches to three sets.

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams faced Sterling, Sycamore and Dixon in a four-team meet at Sterling High School on Tuesday.

Senior Loretta Atkinson saw her role with the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team continue to grow after transitioning up from the junior varsity level.
