At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved a $1.276 million construction contract with Neumann Brothers Contractors for painting and rehabilitation of the water tower off the Illinois Route 251 overpass.

On Thursday, April 4, a Small Business Bingo Spring Kickoff event was held at the hangar at Chicagoland Skydiving Center and raised $4,105 that will be split evenly between the Rochelle Area Community Foundation and The Kitchen Table. Well over 200 people attended the event, Event Organizer and AP Massage Therapy Owner Ashley Patrick said.

Ralph Papke of Rochelle served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 during World War II. He was in a construction battalion that worked to rebuild Tokyo, Japan. 

On April 5 at 9:15 a.m. Josh L. Godman, 27, of Dixon was cited for expired registration. He signed a promise to comply and was given a May 10 Rochelle court date.

On April 5 at 9:18 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on West Illinois Route 72 just west of North Illinois Route 26. As a result, Nicole A Sherrer, 28, of Freeport was arrested for driving while license suspended. Sherrer was additionally issued citations for expired registration, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Sherrer was released on a notice to appear with a future court date.

Nancy L. Blume, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Manor Court in Rochelle, Illinois. 

Lois Joanne Hopwood, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at her home with her family at her side. 

Bonnie Winn Seebach, 78, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Northwestern Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. 

Arline L. Thompson, 93, passed away peacefully with family by her side Monday, April 8, 2024 at The Meadows in Franklin Grove, Illinois.

Junior Lauren Dyer smacked an opposite-field single with no outs in the bottom of the second inning to help the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team avoid a no-hit shutout during the program’s Interstate 8 Conference opener against Ottawa on Monday evening.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team teed off its Interstate 8 Conference schedule with the first of a three-game series against Sycamore on Monday evening.

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams traveled west to the St. Ambrose University campus in Iowa for the annual Assumption Invitational.

The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team took second in the 2024 Hubs Dubs Tournament at RTHS on Saturday morning. Rochelle (2-0, 0-0 Interstate 8) tied with Harlem in the tournament, scoring 21 points.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team hosted a nonconference doubleheader against Streator on Saturday, splitting the two-game set with the Bulldogs.

Freshman Emma Heller was calm and collected in the pitcher’s circle Saturday morning, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team faced Boylan Catholic at RTHS.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team faced Indian Creek on the road Friday evening, conceding a 6-2 loss in nonconference action.

The Rochelle volleyball program has another Division I recruit, with junior setter Alison Ohlinger announcing her decision Friday to continue her academics and athletics at the University of Toledo after she concludes her accomplished high school career this coming fall.

These days with all the new pronouns, changing definitions of things I’ve known for decades and misinformation peddled by “social influencers” it’s hard for anyone to define anything anymore. The only social influencer I ever knew in my life were called mom and dad, and dependent on their mood at the time or their answer truly influenced your social life.

An example of malicious prosecution is the Cusick v. Gualandi et al. case. Malicious prosecution is filing a lawsuit without probable cause, with fabricated evidence or plain malice.
