The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team snapped a two-match losing streak on Thursday, when the purple and white hosted Streator in nonconference action. Senior Christian Thorne fired a team-high 612 series, while sophomore Andrew Powell added a 567 series as the Hubs defeated the Bulldogs 3,245-2,959 at T-Byrd Lanes. Rochelle (9-6, 4-3 Interstate 8) will bowl at the Freeport Sport Shot Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Jim Charles Mickey died December 14, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Jesse Dale Macklin, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Liberty Village in Rochelle.

Yngve “Morry” Johnson, 99, of Malta, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

On Dec. 12 at approximately 9:33 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Illinois Route 2 and Cultra Road. After a brief investigation, Refugio Hernandez-Molina, 34, of Rockford, was arrested for no valid driver's license. Hernandez was additionally cited for registration violations and no insurance. Hernandez was released on a notice to appear.

On Dec. 12 at 11:05 a.m. Danielle M. Carmichael, 47, of Rochelle was cited for speeding 61 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. She signed a promise to comply and was given a Jan. 19 Rochelle court date.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, members of the Rochelle Fire Department and the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District completed training evolutions at the new Joint Training Facility. This was the first training held at the site since construction began this fall. Members completed several evolutions, including hose line advancement, search, ventilation and command functions.

The Rochelle Lions Club recently donated new winter coats and snow pants to Lincoln Elementary School as part of its service to the community program.

HOPE of Ogle County is so very grateful for the community support they have received this holiday season. It received generous donations to assist survivors of domestic abuse and their children including turkey donations, gas cards, comfort and toiletry items for survivors staying in shelter, as well as folks who adopted families and individuals for the holidays.

In honor of National Gratitude Month in November, Rochelle Community Hospital created a gratitude tree.

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board of Trustees voted 3-2 to increase video gaming fees to $250 per machine per year. Trustees Tim Ball and Jose Huerta voted against the increase.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution in support of county school facilities sales tax referendum appearing on the March 19 election ballot.

The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team extended its winning streak on Thursday, defeating Dakota and Oregon in nonconference action. Rochelle opened the triangular meet with a 53-21 win over Dakota before taking down Oregon 54-24 to close out the evening. The Hubs (12-1, 3-0 Interstate 8) will travel for the Oak Forest Mega Duals on Saturday afternoon.

Wednesday evening was a pivotal match in the Interstate 8 Conference, as the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team looked to bounce back from a loss against LaSalle-Peru and remain near the top of the conference standings with a win over Sycamore. While the Hubs took the first game from the Spartans, Sycamore rallied to claim both the second and third games as well as the series total, handing Rochelle a 3,300-3,087 defeat at T-Byrd Lanes.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team returned to T-Byrd Lanes for its second home match in two days on Wednesday evening. Junior Cassidy Vincent rolled a team-high 555 series, while sophomore Kylie McCullough added a 452 series as the Lady Hubs fell 2,769-2,415 against Sterling. Rochelle (4-3, 3-2 Interstate 8) will face Ottawa on the road next Wednesday.

A comeback effort allowed the Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team to remain unbeaten in the Interstate 8 Conference on Wednesday evening, when the purple and white rallied off four consecutive falls to upend the Morris Redskins in a head-to-head matchup.

Kara Martinez was eager to return to action after missing several games with an injury. The senior guard returned to the lineup and made a trio of huge shots on Thursday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team hosted Belvidere North in nonconference play.

The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team dominated the first quarter of its nonconference game against Genoa-Kingston on Wednesday evening, outscoring the Cogs 22-6 during that frame. Junior Carson Lewis scored a team-high 17 points and made five 3-pointers, while senior Eli Luxton recorded an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double as the Hubs cruised over Genoa-Kingston 74-44. Rochelle (2-6, 0-3 Interstate 8) snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 16 athletes to the annual DeKalb Wrestling Club Beginners Tournament on Sunday. Four Rochelle athletes brought home first-place finishes in the tournament, while four others secured second-place finishes and six more took third place.

Sophomore Kylie McCullough delivered a trio of crucial strikes as the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team looked to close out a tight match against Kaneland on Tuesday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team competed without two starters during Monday's Interstate 8 Conference matchup against LaSalle-Peru. Junior Logan Frye fired a team-high 583 series, while sophomore Caleb Mortensen added a 526 series as the Cavaliers edged Rochelle 3,048-2,951. The Hubs (8-5, 4-2 Interstate 8) will host Sycamore on Wednesday.
