OTTAWA — The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team came back from a one-score deficit to win its final regular season match on Monday evening, when the purple and white faced Ottawa.

Junior Antonio Ruiz and senior Alberto Casillas each scored goals for the Hubs, who tied the match in the first half before taking the lead in the second half to beat the Pirates 2-1 and end conference play with a victory. Junior Antonio Hueramo recorded five saves for the Hubs (12-10-1, 6-4 Interstate 8), who will face Belvidere in the IHSA 2A Regional Quarterfinals at Belvidere High School on Saturday at 10 a.m. Rochelle is the No. 8 seed in the tournament.

Ottawa edged Rochelle 10-9 in shots on goal, but the Hubs slightly outpaced the Pirates 15-14 in total shots for the match. Ottawa struck first on Monday, scoring in the 18th minute before the Hubs found the equalizer during the 22nd minute, when Ruiz cashed in an assist from junior defender Emmanuel Nambo.

Rochelle took a 1-1 draw into the second half, where Casillas found the back of the Ottawa net during the 58th minute to help the Hubs seal the match.  The Pirates placed two shots on goal in the final minute, but the Rochelle defense stood strong to preserve the win.
