ROCHELLE — Rochelle city officials have acknowledged they are looking into speculation the Rochelle Global III Intermodal operation may be shut down in the near future.
Rochelle City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh, Mayor-Elect John Bearrows and Economic Development Director Jason Anderson met with state legislators in Springfield on Wednesday to discuss the situation, but at this time no official announcement has been made by Union Pacific officials.
“Our team is working to obtain answers and will continue to work to move Rochelle forward,” Fiegenschuh stated. "The City of Rochelle has not received any official reports of the possible closure of the UP Global III Intermodal Terminal. However, should UP decide to close the facility, the city will focus on retaining both businesses and jobs connected to Global III through continuing its expansion of the City of Rochelle Railroad."
