Junior Tackle: Rochelle wins two games against Dixon

Eighth-graders remain undefeated, fifth-graders earn second win

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Junior Tackle football teams hosted the Dixon Junior Dukes at Helms Park on Saturday afternoon. The eighth-graders won their fourth consecutive game to remain undefeated, while the fifth-graders earned their second win of the season. Both the seventh-graders and the sixth-graders conceded losses.

8th Grade

Rochelle defeated Dixon 38-20 to move to 5-0 on the season. Vinny Tornabene rushed for 107 yards on 12 carries, while Braxton Bruns rushed for 61 yards and one touchdown on five carries. Joey Chadwick rushed for 39 yards on nine carries and Riley Smith recorded 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Vinny Tornabene, Kyler Rowe and Riley Smith each nabbed interceptions on defense, with Tornabene returning his for a 38-yard touchdown. Mason Lopez and Ben Morris each recorded one tackle for loss, while Nolan Zick contributed three tackles. Rochelle improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.

7th Grade

Rochelle fell to the Junior Dukes 14-6 and moved to 1-4 on the season with the loss. Korbin Milos rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to help the seventh-graders avoid the shutout against Dixon. The scoring drive was set up by a 20-yard pass from Maddex Jackson to Vaughn Manning. Roger Navarro recorded six tackles on defense.

6th Grade

Dominic Escatel rushed for a 7-yard touchdown as the sixth-graders fell to the Junior Dukes 20-6 on Saturday. Rochelle moved to 3-2 on the season with the loss.

5th Grade

Michael Vaughn ran for 90 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the fifth-graders, rushing for a 47-yard score and a 7-yard score. Braxton Ellison added a 1-yard touchdown run for the Junior Hubs, who won 20-14 over Dixon and improved to 2-3 on the season. Johnathan Lilly made a key defensive play, recovering a rumble and returning the ball 40 yards to set up Rochelle's last touchdown of the game.
