OREGON — Junior Annaliese Koziol was a medalist for the third consecutive meet on Saturday afternoon, when members of the Rochelle Township High School varsity cross country teams took on more than 20 local schools during the annual Oregon Open at Oregon Park West.

Koziol finished 14th out of 131 runners in the 5,000-meter race, leading the Lady Hubs to 11th out of 18 teams with 293 points on Saturday. Koziol clocked in with a time of 21:05.7, while sophomore Vivian Worthington finished 63rd with a time of 24:35.0. Juniors Rose Luxton and Mary Chadwick took 65th and 70th with respective times of 24:38.5 and 24:57.0 for RTHS.

“We had a lot of PRs even though the course was 3.1 miles long,” head coach Dale Bergeson said. “We placed well as a team and we faced some pretty good competition. It’s good to see progress from our athletes each week and I enjoyed seeing them race on Saturday.”

Freshman Tyler Johnson ran the fastest time for the Hubs, clocking in with a time of 17:04.2 to finish 16th out of 162 runners. Junior Declan McGee took 44th with a time of 18:16.5 for the Hubs, who landed in 11th out of 21 teams with 328 points in the meet. Rochelle received a boost from sophomore Hunter Bivins, who finished 95th with a time of 20:11.5 in his season debut. Juniors Levi Waddle and Elijah Mayen took 94th and 100th in 20:10.4 and 20:38.0.

Rochelle’s next race will be the First to the Finish Invitational at Detweiller Park on Sept. 14.
