Deputies respond to several accidents

On March 2  at 9:54 a.m., the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Forreston Police Department, Forreston Fire Department and the Forreston Ambulance responded to a two vehicle accident  with injuries on  Illinois Route 26 at Coffman Road. A Ford F250 pulling an enclosed trailer was following a red Ford Fusion southbound on Illinois Route 26. The Ford Fusion slowed to make a left turn onto Coffman Road when the Ford F250 failed to yield to the Ford Fusion. The Ford F250 rear ended the  Ford Fusion causing the  Ford Fusion to cross over Illinois Route 26 and some to a stop  in the east ditch. The Ford F250 came to a stop on the roadway. The driver of the Ford Fusion, Roger F. Kilker, 84, of Forreston, and his passenger, Audrey R. Kilker, 83, of Forreston, were transported to Freeport Memorial Hospital by Forreston EMS and Freeport EMS with minor injuries. The driver of the  Ford  F250, Daniel P. Reif, 54,  of  St. Paul, Minnesota, refused medical attention. Reif  was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid  an accident.

On March 2 at 1:53 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 20,000 block of East Illinois Route 64. After an investigation, deputies arrested Kelly Truell, 31, of DeKalb, for driving without a license and speeding. Truell was given an I-bond for his citations and was released from the scene.

On March 2 at approximately 2:51 p.m., deputies responded to the 5,000 block of South Lowden Road in reference to a traffic crash. An S10 truck driven by Tobias Knapp, 21, of Sterling, was northbound on South Lowden Road, approximately one-half mile south of Lighthouse Road. He was attempting to pass another vehicle in a double yellow no passing zone. It struck a 2500 Chevrolet truck head on that was travelling southbound. The 2500 was driven by James Bertsch, 61, of rural Oregon. Neither driver sustained injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Knapp was cited for improper passing and fail to reduce speed to avoid an accident and given a March 31 court date in Oregon. The Ogle County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Oregon Fire Department and Ambulance. 

On March 3 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Ogle County deputies responded to the 500 block of South Ash Avenue in Forreston in reference to a disturbance. After investigation, deputies arrested Steven Croffoot, 26, of Pearl City, for disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer. Croffoot was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was released to correctional staff and held in lieu of bond.

On March 4 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Ogle County deputies responded to the Ogle County Probation department.  After an investigation it was learned that Rueben C. Burgess, 31, of Rochelle, had defrauded a drug screening test. Burgess was placed under arrest for defrauding a drug and alcohol screening test and transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.
