Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Oct. 22-25

On Oct. 22 at approximately 6:15 a.m. deputies responded to a one vehicle accident in the 500 block of East Townline Road. After an investigation it was determined that a three-axle dump truck being driven by Jeffery Pitzer, 57, of Franklin Grove, was westbound on Townline Road when he swerved to avoid a deer crossing the roadway. The dump truck entered the north ditch and struck the ditch embankment. The truck went up and over the embankment and came to a stop approximately 200 feet off of the roadway. Pitzer was transported to Swedish American hospital to be treated for injuries. No citations were issued.

On Oct. 23 at approximately 12:38 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at North Illinois Route 2 and Kathryn Road. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Seth E. Dascher, 28, of Rockford, for no valid driver’s license and unlawful possession of cannabis (improper container). Dascher was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond. While at the jail, Dascher was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and cited for speeding.

On Oct. 23 at approximately 9:51 p.m. deputies along with Byron Fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the 10,800 block of North Illinois Route 2 for a single vehicle rollover accident with injuries. After investigation, deputies arrested Kelly L. Helfrich, 29, of Rochelle, for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license suspended. Helfrich was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Helfrich was additionally cited for improper traffic lane usage and transport open container of alcohol. Helfrich was released on a $3,000/10 percent individual bond and provided a return court date.  ​

On Oct. 24 at 12:29 a.m. deputies and Lynn Scott Rock Fire were dispatched to a single vehicle roll over crash on Illinois Route 251 near Holcomb Road. Investigation by deputies revealed that a southbound vehicle driven by Jason Bauser, 36, of Sterling left the west side of the roadway and overturned. Bauser was transported by ambulance for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Bauser was arrested for driving under the influence and released on a I-Bond. Bauser was also cited for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.  

On Oct. 24 at approximately 12:25 a.m. deputies and Byron Fire/EMS responded to the 4,800 block of East Illinois Route 72 for a one vehicle rollover accident. After investigation, Tyler Jackson, 34, of Davis Junction, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Jackson was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and released on an I-Bond. Jackson was transported to a local hospital for injuries. He was issued a return court date.

On Oct. 25 at 11:59 a.m. deputies responded to Illinois Route 72 and Mill Road for a two-vehicle crash. After a short investigation it was learned that a 2015 Dodge Dart driven by Samantha Norup, 26, of Byron was traveling east on Illinois Route 72 and failed to give the right away to a 2016 Jeep driven by Jacqueline Dietrich, 60, of Byron that was turning north onto Mill Road. Dietrich was transported to a Rockford Hospital for minor injuries by Byron Fire. Norup refused medical and received citations for driving without valid insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Norup was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay fines and transported to the Ogle County Jail. Deputies were assisted on scene by Byron Fire.   

On Oct. 25 at approximately 10:52 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 11,000 block of East Illinois Route 38. After investigation, deputies placed David Coil, 34, of Ashton under arrest for possession of a controlled substance (tramadol), possession of a controlled substance (morphine) and improper container driver. Coil was additionally issued citations for improper tint and expired registration. Coil was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held pending a court appearance in front of a judge.
