HILLCREST — Rochelle Fire crews are on the scene of a natural gas leak in Hillcrest near the intersection of Powers Rd. and Linda Ave.
Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said shortly after 12 p.m., Tuesday, workers using a directional boring machine to install new fiber optic lines hit a service gas line leading to a building just north of the area, but did not hit the main gas line. Reportedly there were no flags indicating an underground line where the service pipe was struck.
Sawlsville said the fire crews are also waiting for the building’s key holder so a further inspection could be conducted inside. He said there will be no evacuation needed. Nicor Gas has been dispatched.
