Kiwanis’ have another successful Pancake Day

Posted

ROCHELLE — Members of Rochelle Kiwanis Golden K had a large turnout for their traditional all-you-can-eat Pancake Day Saturday morning. Stacks of flapjacks were being made just as fast as the crowds filed in line for most of the event.

Golden K member Arch Millotte remarked this year’s attendance counts were significantly higher than last. Weather certainly played a factor, cooperating with pleasant temperatures. Millotte said he noticed quite a number of early attendees as well.
“We had a terrific turnout…the weather was excellent for our Pancake Day. That’s probably one of the biggest factors as far as turnout,” Millotte said. “It was amazing, people wanting an early breakfast. We had a big turnout right when we started serving at 6:30 in the morning.”

Millotte and Hugh McDermitt, another Golden K member also noticed this year’s increase in walk-in attendees — those that hadn’t purchased tickets ahead of time, estimating between 125 and 130.
“We are very happy with the turnout. With the good advertising that we had and the children 11 and under free were both very good motivating factors for the turnout,” Millotte said.
About 30 members from the Golden K help to prepare the food, with the pancakes made fresh that morning. The Rochelle Township High School Key Club sponsored a bake sale during the event.
