Lady Hubs take ninth place at Byron

BYRON — The Lady Hubs track and field team finished ninth out of 13 teams at the Byron Girls Indoor Preview this past Saturday, scoring 16 total points on the day.
Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team led the way, placing first overall in the event with a time of 4:18.04 behind juniors Jacie Wyatt, Cesca Vardman, Morgan Knight and Morgan Baker. The Lady Hubs took third in the 800-meter relay, with Vardman, Baker, Wyatt and sophomore Makenna Ferrari putting together a time of 1:54.55 to edge out Winnebago and Byron for the No. 3 spot.

Freshmen Emma Smith and Katie Van Hise teamed up with sophomores Katherine Bakken and Anne Hickey to take ninth in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 11:45.29. Bakken placed 12th out of 24 girls in the 1600-meter run at 6:09.16, while Hickey took 18th at 6:44.26.
Freshmen Julissa Hernandez and Caitlin McMurray took the track for Rochelle in the 800-meter run, placing 21st and 22nd respectively with times of 3:06.28 and 3:08.18. Freshman Britney Baez finished the 3200-meter run in 13:58.94 for seventh place, and sophomore Cam Turner ran the 400-meter dash in 1:12.36 for 11th place.
Freshman Macey Ryan snuck past Winnebago’s Cassidy Gilley for 11th place in the qualifying round of the 55-meter dash, finishing 11th in the finals with a time of 8.19. Sophomore Cheyenne Watson ran the 55-meter hurdles in 10.66 for 16th place in qualifiers, with Ferrari landing three milliseconds behind for 17th place at 10.69.
The Lady Hubs sent four competitors into the field events, with junior Allysa Harding taking 15th in the shot put with a toss of 29-8 ¼. Knight finished 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 29-0 ¼, while Baker took 11th in the long jump at 13-6. Junior Alexis Crawford placed 12th in the high jump at 4-4.
