On Aug. 4 at approximately 1:33 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Illinois Route 251 and Dutch Road. After an investigation, deputies arrested Antonio Cerrito-Olivares, 36, of Rockford, for driving while his license was revoked, with no insurance, and expired registration.  Cerrito-Olivares was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he received citations for the above charges and was released after processing on a notice to appear.  Cerrito-Olivares vehicle was towed from the scene.

On Aug. 2 at 2:14 p.m. Amanda Knuckles, 31, of Rochelle was arrested on an outstanding Crawford County warrant and transferred.

Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists recently held a Food & School Supplies Drive to benefit area food pantries. Numerous bags and bins of non-perishable foods and school supplies were recently delivered to Rochelle Christian Food Pantry.

The Rochelle Chamber of Commerce recently presented its Lawn of the Week award for the week of Aug. 5 to Ed and Jan Kissack. They received a sign and a $25 Rochelle ACE Hardware gift card, presented by Rochelle Ace Hardware Manager Jesse Lopez.

Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County is excited to bring the opportunity for a local family to win a 6x10 hand-crafted playhouse.

The Nickason Theater Scholarships were recently awarded to Rochelle Township High School students Jayme Kopec, Noah LeFevre and Lydia Von Haden. Two years ago, Donna (Murphy) Nickason of the RTHS Class of 1974 established the scholarship for three students to attend summer theater camps.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the Rochelle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) dedicated a commemorative bench at the Creston Opera House honoring the upcoming 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Ian Metzger’s improved chipping allowed him to take advantage of soft greens and minimize his mistakes during the 12th Annual Dennis Berg Memorial Tournament at Fairways Golf Course, where Metzger was crowned the youngest club champion in history.

Jennifer M. Copeland of Loves Park, IL passed away on July 31, 2024.

On July 30 at approximately 6:55 p.m. deputies responded to a violation of an order of protection in the 9,000 block of North Blaine Drive.  After investigation, deputies placed Dustin Grove, 41, of Davis Junction under arrest for violation of an order of protection and an active Rockford PD failure to appear warrant for driving under the influence. Grove was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held pending a court appearance in front of a judge.

On July 30 at 8:20 p.m. Anastasia Taylor, 23, of Rockford was cited for speeding 63 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone and improper display of registration plate. She signed a promise to comply and was given an Aug. 30 Rochelle court date.

Leo Roop died peacefully at his Tucson, Arizona, home on July 17, 2024. He was 88.

City of Rochelle Engineer Sam Tesreau has announced Steward Road, between South Main Street and the Ogle County line south of the City Railroad crossing, will be under construction beginning Monday Aug. 5 until Aug. 30.

Rochelle Community Hospital recently added a new full-time nurse practitioner, Chenin Congrave Rude, to its Convenient Care department, which treats patients of all ages for minor illnesses and injuries with no appointment necessary. 

The City of Rochelle recently received notice of its receipt of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Award for the fifth year.
