The Rochelle 561 Sluggers 11U baseball team won all four of its games to finish first in the 2024 Blue Badger Baseball Bash from June 8-9. Rochelle scored two wins on Saturday, June 8 before concluding the tournament with two more victories on Sunday, June 9.

Two members of the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team earned All-Conference honors from the Interstate 8 for their efforts during the 2024 season. Senior Brock Metzger earned First-Team recognition and freshman Brody Bruns was named an Honorable Mention.

Over 2,200 students received their degrees from Northern Illinois University in May.

On June 4 at 8:13 a.m. Cristobal Raya Ochoa, 35, of DeKalb was cited for speeding 21-25 miles per hour over the speed limit. He was released on a notice to appear with a July 12 Rochelle court date.

On June 5 at 8:32 p.m. deputies, with the assistance of Byron Police Department, conducted a traffic stop at Illinois Route 72 and Mill Road. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Misti List, 42, of Leaf River, for an outstanding Ogle County warrant. List was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team nearly came away with an IHSA 3A Regional Championship last season, when the boys took down Woodstock and came close to upending another higher-ranked school in Freeport.

A pair of injuries to her right shoulder forced Rochelle senior Macy Belmonte to miss her final season with the varsity softball team.

The Rochelle Rampage 8U baseball team went 3-1 over four games to finish in second place out of four teams at the 2024 School’s Out Slugfest on Sunday, May 19.

It is well known that Illinois is facing educator shortages, and these shortages are inequitable. Districts that serve higher percentages of English-language learners, students with individualized education programs, students from low-income households, and students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic populations are more likely to have shortages.

Planters continue to roll out in the fields as we near the completion of spring planting. Weather forecasts through the summer continue to predict warmer-than-normal temperatures for the Corn Belt with near normal precipitation. Should that occur as predicted it should be a relatively-good growing year. Of course, we never know until Fall harvest kicks-in.
