The Rochelle VFW Post 3878’s Queen of Hearts contest has reached a record $114,285 jackpot, Post Commander Joe Drought said following the most recent drawing on Dec. 5.

The Rochelle Elementary School District and the Rochelle Township High School District will have an item on their December meeting agendas on whether or not they will support placing a county facility sales tax on the ballot of an upcoming election, Shared Rochelle Schools District Superintendent Jason Harper said in an email Dec. 4.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Creston Village Board of Trustees discussed recent progress that's been seen on properties in disrepair in the village.

Senior wrestler Tommy Tourdot has had Rochelle coaches in his corner since his childhood, when he represented the Hubs as a member of the Rochelle Wrestling Club. That trend will continue at the collegiate level, where Tourdot will compete for a Rochelle Township High School wrestling legend as well as one of the top coaches in all of NCAA Division III.

Junior Cassidy Vincent fired her second 600 series score of the season Wednesday evening, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team faced Morris in Interstate 8 Conference play. Vincent rolled a team-high 612 series, leading the Lady Hubs over the Redskins 2,450-2,345. Rochelle (3-2, 2-2 Interstate 8) will compete in the Cavalier Classic on Saturday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team remained on the winning path Wednesday evening, sweeping its nonconference triangular meet against Marengo and Sterling and running its streak to five consecutive dual victories. Rochelle (7-1, 0-0 Interstate 8) defeated Sterling 53-18 and cruised over Marengo 62-11 to conclude the evening with two more wins. The Hubs will host Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru on Thursday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team had a chance to snap its four-game losing streak on Tuesday evening, when the purple and white faced off against Sycamore in an Interstate 8 Conference matchup. Despite leading 36-28 at halftime, Rochelle was unable to maintain its advantage, as the Spartans scored 40 second-half points to rally for a 68-66 win over the Hubs.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team suffered a lopsided loss against Stillman Valley on Monday evening. The Cardinals outscored Rochelle 23-6 in the second quarter, ultimately cruising to a 73-34 victory over the Lady Hubs. Senior Alivia Henkel led Rochelle (3-6, 0-0 Interstate 8) with eight points and three steals, while sophomore Jaydin Dickey added six points and two steals.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team hosted an Interstate 8 Conference match against Ottawa on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Kylie McCullough shined for the Lady Hubs, rolling a team-high 607 series as the Pirates defeated Rochelle 2,706-2,549. Junior Cassidy Vincent fired a 573 series for the Lady Hubs, who will face Morris on Wednesday.

Senior Christian Thorne was among several members of the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team who threw big games during Tuesday’s home match against Ottawa.

Adversity mounted for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team as the purple and white looked to secure their first win of the season against the Mendota Trojans on Tuesday.
