DEKALB — Six seniors combined for three doubles victories on Wednesday evening, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team took down the DeKalb Barbs for their first win this fall.
Despite conceding both singles matches, Rochelle claimed all three doubles matches to earn a 3-2 victory over the Barbs in nonconference action. Seniors Catherine Williams and Erin Murphy dominated the No. 1 doubles match against Alissa Kocjan and Preeti Islam, sweeping their way to an 8-0 win. Seniors Natalie Wagner and Sydney Carmichael also won without dropping a single game, defeating Bearnice Carmona and Maria Bello Rodriguez 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Seniors Abby Metzger and Lauren Dyer sealed Rochelle’s first victory of the season, outlasting Emma Hart and Addelyn Foster for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Seniors Yaretzi Villalobos fell 0-8 against Krystal Baggett at No. 1 singles, while junior Ashley Lozano took three games in a 3-8 loss against Jolie Ni at No. 2 singles. Rochelle (1-3, 0-1 Interstate 8) will return to action on Saturday morning, when the Lady Hubs will travel for the annual Harlem Varsity Invitational.
