ROCK FALLS — Despite taking down Rock Falls 10-4 in the second round of the 2017 Illinois Little League District 19 Championship this past week, the Rochelle Little League 10-11 Boys All-Star Team needed one more win over Rock Falls to bring home the district title.
That’s exactly what the boys did this past Saturday, with Rochelle defeating Rock Falls by a score of 8-4 to clinch the district championship. It was the third of four district titles Rochelle earned this summer.
Colton O’Rorke took the mound to start the game, firing two innings before handing the ball to Erich Metzger and Paul Swartz, who finished the game in relief. The three boys combined to surrender just two hits.
Brock Metzger led the Rochelle offense with two hits and three runs scored, while three other players recorded hits including Swartz, Nolan Fonfara and Brandt Waters. Rochelle will begin the District 20 Sub-State Championship on Friday, July 21 in Peru.
