OTTAWA — The Rochelle boys bowling team had a tough trip to the Illinois Valley this week, dropping road matches against Interstate 8 Conference rivals LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa to fall to 0-4 on the season.
Rochelle fell against LaSalle-Peru at the Illinois Valley Super Bowl on Wednesday by a final score of 3,088-2,536. Kyle Jordan’s 211 and Landen Miller’s 205 led the Cavaliers to a 1,011-848 win the first game before LaSalle-Peru took the second game 976-837 behind Miller’s 227. Miller finished strong with 289 in the third game to propel the Cavaliers over the Hubs 1,101-851. Junior John Henson rolled Rochelle’s high series of 499 while senior Logan Ortega added 476. Miller totaled 721.
“We ran into quite a bit of oil against LaSalle-Peru and that was something the boys weren’t used to bowling on,” head coach Jim Lyles said. “We struggled to hook the ball so we’re looking to make some adjustments there.”
The Hubs faced Ottawa at Dettore’s Town Lanes on Thursday, falling by a score of 3,173-2,629. Junior Keith Holland rolled 230 to lead Rochelle, but the Pirates took the first game 987-948 behind Keegan Fleming’s 196. Fleming shot 214 and Jordan Goff added 203 in the second game, which Ottawa claimed 1,041-831. Nelson Brandt scored 218 in the third game for the Pirates, who blew Rochelle away 1,145-850. Holland recorded a team-high 542 series for the Hubs.
“The lanes were a little different than Wednesday, but the boys still struggled,” Lyles said. “Our main problem is that the boys have balls that don’t fit their hands… We’re picking out balls for the kids and we’re going to drill them up so they fit their hands. I told the boys not to get frustrated with their scores because they’re throwing balls that don’t fit them.”
