MORRIS — Lady Hub senior Carlie Elder picked the perfect time to throw the highest three-game series of her high school bowling career. Elder rolled 728 including a 277 game during the second half of the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet at Echo Lanes on Thursday, and she finished the tournament with a 1,207 six-game series to place eighth individually and earn All-Conference recognition for the second straight season.

“Being an All-Conference bowler gives me a sense of accomplishment,” said Elder, who will be shooting to make her fourth consecutive sectional at the IHSA DeKalb Regional this weekend. “I tried to go into this tournament with a clear head… I was keeping myself calm and upbeat even though I had a rough morning. The conference tournament helped me feel better about regionals.”

Rochelle placed eighth out of 10 schools at the tournament with 5,493 pins to edge out Ottawa and Kaneland. Senior Katie Dummer led the Lady Hubs with a 1,295 series over six games to place third individually and earn her third All-Conference honor in four years. Dummer will try for her third sectional appearance at the regional this weekend.

“I knew that I bowled well here last time so I think that boosted my confidence,” Dummer said. “I’m happy that I’ve been able to peak toward the end of the season… I think we worked well as a team and we kept our moods in line. We all had good energy and positive vibes. I think if we have the same vibes at the regional, we’ll do well.

Rochelle totaled team scores of 875, 899 and 893 over its first three games of team competition. Senior Hope Palmer led the Lady Hubs with 203 in the opening game, while Dummer shot 222 to propel Rochelle in the second game. Dummer upped her score by one pin (223) in the third game before the team entered the halftime intermission.

“I think the key to advancing will be keeping our attitudes up and taking things one shot at a time like coach [Joey] Johanning says,” Dummer said.

Elder’s 277 jump-started Rochelle (993) in the fourth game, and the combination of Dummer’s 227 and Elder’s 215 helped the Lady Hubs total 936 in the fifth game. Elder shot 236 to end her competition, with Dummer adding 213 for Rochelle’s 897 total in the sixth game.

“Staying calm and finding the right line will be the keys to making sectionals,” Elder said. “Regionals is a big deal for me since I’m not bowling in college. This is it. I’m praying for good pin carry and an upbeat team.”
