SYCAMORE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team faced Sycamore for an Interstate 8 Conference rematch Friday evening. The Spartans controlled their first contest against Rochelle and the second matchup resulted in a similar outcome, with Sycamore defeating the Lady Hubs 56-30. Senior Afi Gati and junior Jordin Dickey each scored six points for the Lady Hubs, who were without junior starter Josie Lundquist once again due to a foot injury.

“I thought we took a step forward in that game,” head coach Tony Rowan said. “It was a tight game in the first quarter and there were a few minute-long stretches where they took advantage of our mistakes. We played well as a team, but they run phenomenal offense and they have multiple girls who can knock down different kinds of shots. We’re getting there.”

Sycamore led 32-19 at halftime before dominating the third quarter, outscoring Rochelle 18-4 and putting the game out of reach for the Lady Hubs. The Spartans limited Rochelle to roughly 20 percent shooting from the field and forced 17 Lady Hub turnovers. Gati grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Rochelle, while senior Alexis Sanford added five rebounds in the loss.

“We handled their pressure while handling the ball and I was very proud of that,” Rowan said. “We moved around and relocated for each other on offense. We communicated through our switches on defense and we did our best to make their jobs as difficult as we could.”
