ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Noah Griffith’s standout high school tennis career came to an end at the state tournament in Arlington Heights on Thursday, as the Hub senior won one match and lost two.
This is the third trip to the IHSA State Tournament for Griffith, who ends the season with a 28-5 record.
In his first match of the day Griffith fell 6-1, 6-1 to Chicago University’s Arjun Asokumar, but bounced back in the consolation bracket to defeat Seth Jorgensen, of Cornerstone Christian Academy, by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

In his third match on Thursday, Griffith lost the first set 6-2 to Chatham Glenwood’s Kevin Zhang, but battled hard to stay alive in the second set before falling 7-5.
“The opponent in my first match may have been the best player I’ve ever matched up against,” Griffith said on Friday morning. “He was only a sophomore, but he was killing the ball.”
Griffith said a slow start hurt him in this third match.
“I got behind 3-0 early, and I just decided to let it all out and came back to tie the match at 5-5,” he said. “I held off seven match points, but just couldn’t get over the hump. I think if I had won that game I would have pulled out the match.”
Griffith will continue his tennis career at Ottawa University in Surprise, Ariz. next year.
