The Hubs varsity wrestling flexed its muscles one final time at its home gym on Thursday, with the Rochelle boys dominating the Princeton Tigers on Senior Night by a final score of 57-17. The win bumps Rochelle’s overall record up to 17-12, and the team will compete in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Junior Varsity Conference Meet at DeKalb this weekend before battling in the IHSA Class 2A Individual Regional in Belvidere.

ROCHELLE — The Hubs varsity wrestling flexed its muscles one final time at its home gym on Thursday, with the Rochelle boys dominating the Princeton Tigers on Senior Night by a final score of 57-17. The win bumps Rochelle’s overall record up to 17-12, and the team will compete in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Junior Varsity Conference Meet at DeKalb this weekend before battling in the IHSA Class 2A Individual Regional in Belvidere.

Senior Alex Harvey (35-1) opened the nonconference match with a 12-4 major decision against Princeton’s Dallas Hill at 220 pounds, and senior Bazil Bennett outlasted Eric Hoffeditz by 1-0 decision to win at 285 pounds. Freshman Ivan Pineda scored a big victory for Rochelle at 106 pounds, beating Colin Colomone by 14-6 major decision.

Princeton’s Caleb Alter took a forfeit at 113 pounds before Rochelle freshman Reese Kirk received a forfeit at 120 pounds and freshman Grant Thompson earned a forfeit at 126 pounds. Senior Andy Silva won by fall over Jimmy Kurth at 132 pounds before senior Justin Hernandez (32-6) defeated Gabe Thompson at 138 pounds by 17-1 technical fall.

Junior Eddie Villalobos (35-3) continued Rochelle’s winning ways with a 19-4 technical fall over Jakob Ebner at 145 pounds, and senior Ehren Metzger (24-6) won by fall over Reid Smith at 152 pounds before Princeton broke its scoring drought with a victory by fall for Peyton Hammerich over Rochelle sophomore Gavin Ansteth at 160 pounds.

Zach Bohms pinned Hub sophomore Bryan Garza at 170 pounds, and after Rochelle freshman Ben Harvey took a forfeit at 182 pounds, senior Austin Tracey capped off the varsity victory win a pin of Princeton’s Matt Cihocki at 195 pounds.
