MOLINE — After cruising to a victory in the 2017 Illinois Little League District 19 Championship, the Rochelle Little League Junior All-Star Team faced off against Brown County this past weekend in the opening round of the District 5 Sub-State Tournament.
Behind a complete game by pitcher Spencer Warborg, the Rochelle Junior All-Stars took down Brown County on Saturday by a score of 14-4, with seven players recording at least one RBI in the victory. Warborg struck out seven batters in five innings to pick up the win.
Mike Schlenbecker and Sam Hacaga led the Rochelle offense this past weekend, combining for six RBIs, four hits and two runs scored. Kyler Lara went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Grant Thompson went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ethan Albers and Trevor Goodwin combined to go 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Three players crossed home plate three times in the win including Breccan Berns, who also stole three bases to keep Rochelle in scoring position. Nolan Morrissette scored one run to help the Rochelle All-Stars build their lead. The boys will return to action this week, with three more games on their schedule before the sub-state champion is decided.
