ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs bowling team celebrated Senior Night in a big way on Tuesday, taking down the LaSalle-Peru Lady Cavaliers by a score of 2,869-2,817 in Rochelle’s final home match of the season.

Four seniors represented the Lady Hubs on Tuesday including Brittany Mickley, who rolled a 373 series in her first varsity match of the season and who, like her senior teammates, wore a special T-shirt for the match with the words “split happens” written across the front in silver and black pen.

“It felt great,” Mickley said. “It was all a team effort and I think we all did well… We wanted to do something special for Senior Night so the girls came over to my house and we went to Wal-Mart to buy all the stuff for the shirts.”

Rochelle won the first game over LaSalle-Peru by a score of 945-910, with junior Carlie Elder rolling a 204 and junior Katie Dummer adding a 192 for the Lady Hubs. The Lady Cavs responded in the second game with a 1,004-983 victory behind a 212 from Kendra Guske, but Rochelle rebounded in its last home game, winning 941-903 behind Dummer’s 236, Elder’s 198 and senior Aana Patel’s 150.

“I think everyone was excited and it was special because it was Senior Night,” Patel said. “The team’s been like my second family and it’s been nice to have girls to go to and have fun with.”

Dummer finished with Rochelle’s high series of 651 to help the Lady Hubs snap a two-match losing streak and improve to 4-8 overall heading into Thursday’s Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet in Sycamore as well as the IHSA Oregon Regional at Dixon’s Plum Hollow Lanes on Saturday. Elder finished with a 564, with Patel and senior Julia Frye teaming up for 892 pins.

“Part of me felt bad because I wasn’t doing as well as I was hoping for, but we still pulled out a win,” Frye said. “Most of my friends happen to be in the same sport and it’s great when we become one happy family as opposed to going out and doing our own thing… I think we’re pretty confident and as long as we pick each other up we’ll do a lot better.”

Senior Taylor Nobles, who began the year on the junior varsity team but worked her way up to varsity, bowled a 389 series and a high game of 139 to round out the Rochelle squad.

“We did it as a team and it was pretty cool,” Nobles said. “The team has meant a lot to me and we’ve had our ups and downs but we’ve worked pretty hard together… We’ve all known each other for a really long time.”
