ROCHELLE — Looking to snap a two-game losing streak, the Hubs sophomore baseball team hosted the Sterling Golden Warriors for the first of a three-game set on Monday at Rochelle Township High School.
Behind two RBIs by Brandon Johnson and a 2-for-4 performance at the plate by freshman Kaleb Hess, the Hubs downed Sterling by a score of 9-5 to improve to 12-7-1 overall. Five Rochelle hitters drove in at least one run including Johnson, Hess, Mason DeLille, Louie Mancinas and Brady Shank.
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hubs exploded for eight runs to take a commanding lead. Shank started on the mound for Rochelle, tossing four innings and striking out four while surrendering two earned runs. Hayden Jones closed the game in relief, adding four more strikeouts and no walks on three hits.
