AURORA — The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team was held to one hit during a 10-0 loss against Marmion Academy on Wednesday evening. Freshman Brody Bruns doubled in the top of the fourth inning for the team’s lone hit in the loss to the Cadets. The Hubs (1-2, 0-0 Interstate 8) will return home for games against Belvidere North and Belvidere on Thursday and Friday.
Marmion tallied two runs in the top of the first inning, scoring on sacrifice flies from Charlie Schweiner and Emmit Collins. The Cadets followed with four runs in the top of the third inning, where Schweiner belted a two-run homer after run-scoring doubles from Tyler Sowers and Ethan Flores. Sophomore Brode Metzger drew a first-inning walk and junior Carson Lewis reached on an error in the bottom of the second inning, but neither Hub was able to score.
Four Rochelle runners reached base in the top of the fourth inning, where Metzger walked before Bruns doubled and junior Elijah Harley reached on a fielder’s choice. Junior Ryan Senne drew a two-out walk after a tagout and lineout, but a strikeout at the plate ended the frame.
Marmion clinched the win with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, where Collins slapped an RBI single and Adam Ozsvath scored on a passed ball to put the Cadets up 8-0. Gavin Burt reached on an error and Nathan Bostrand reached on a fielder’s choice to plate two more runs.
