ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub freshman basketball team cruised over Morris on Thursday, winning 41-31. Elijah Luxton led the Hubs with 15 points, while Landon Mickley added seven points and Parker Lenkaitis added six points.
Rochelle and Morris finished the first quarter tied 6-6. Luxton and Lenkaitis each converted layups for the Hubs, while Mickley added a low-post basket of his own. Rochelle outscored the Redskins 13-9 in the second quarter to lead 19-15 at halftime. Caleb Wyssbrod and Chandler Cunningham each scored on layups to keep the Hub offense moving in the second quarter.
Jack Tracey knocked down Rochelle’s first shot of the second half, hitting a 3-pointer before Luxton made three straight baskets including a triple of his own to extend the Hub lead. After baskets from Mickley, Lenkaitis and Braden Hunley, Rochelle went ahead 35-24 entering the fourth quarter, where the Hubs held off a late surge from the Redskins to seal the victory.
