ROCHELLE — Four members of the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team were recognized with Interstate 8 All-Conference honors this season. Seniors Ryan Simmons and Adam Kemp were each named First-Team All-Conference players, while seniors Tanner Lager and Noah Brown each took home All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Simmons was also named Interstate 8 Player of the Year after averaging 14.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

“It’s a dream come true honestly,” Simmons said. “I’ve put a lot of work into basketball over the last four years and being named First-Team All-Conference was one of my goals for this season. I feel that this season, I was able to get to the basket more and create more shots. I also feel that I was able to make plays and create shots for my teammates. I felt a lot more comfortable this season and I’m going to miss going to practice everyday and competing with the boys. We’re a family and many of us have played a lot of basketball together.”

Simmons finished his career as a three-year varsity starter, scoring a career-high 39 points against Wauconda during the E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic this winter. Simmons also led the Hubs with 28 points in their IHSA 3A Regional Semifinal victory over the Dixon Dukes. Kemp concluded his career as a two-year varsity starter, averaging 9.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Hubs this season while qualifying for the IHSA 3A Sectional 3-Point Shootout.

“It feels great to have all of my hard work pay off,” Kemp said. “My confidence and ability to run our offense improved tremendously. I enjoyed the bonds that our team formed and how much fun we had in winning conference and regional titles. I’m going to miss all of the guys. We’ve made many great memories and I wouldn’t have wanted to enjoy the season with anyone else.”

Lager averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists this season. Brown led the Hubs with 90 3-pointers made and 57 steals while averaging 13.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Rochelle finished 22-11 overall and 11-3 in the Interstate 8 Conference this season.
