ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team continued its busy opening week of the winter season, hosting the Sterling Golden Warriors in nonconference competition Thursday. Sterling defeated Rochelle 3,259-2,892 and dropped the Hubs to 0-3 on the season.
The Golden Warriors took the first game 1,063-967 behind 223 from Ethan Melcher and 210 from Andrew Doughty. Senior Sergio Guevara fired 234 for the Hubs in the first game, while senior Luke Orlikowski rolled 163 and sophomore Christian Thorne added 159.
Sterling extended its lead in the second game, winning 1,098-927 with Doughty shooting 233 and Tristan Oelrichs finishing one pin behind and recording 232. Guevara scored 185 for Rochelle in the second game, with Orlikowski bowling 172 and junior Evin Odle chipping in 168.
The Golden Warriors concluded the three-team sweep with a 1,098-998 victory in the third game. Doughty fired 205 to end the evening with a match-best 648 series, while Melcher recorded 230 for a 609 series and Oelrichs totaling 185 for a 600 series. Odle rolled 200 for the Hubs, while senior Devansh Patel bowled 188 and Guevara shot 170 for a team-high 589 series.
