ROCHELLE — Ben Harvey was a freshman at Rochelle Township High School when his older brother Alex received the honor of competing in the annual Illinois High School Shrine Game. Now a senior, Ben will have his opportunity to participate in the weeklong activities that will culminate with the 47th edition of the Shrine Game at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington.

The Shrine Game takes place every summer in partnership with the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association and Shriners International. The 2021 Shrine Game will kick off Saturday, June 19, 2021 on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. The Shrine Game features the top high school football players in the state, who will represent the East and West All-Star teams.

“When I heard I was selected to play in the Shrine Game, I was extremely excited,” Harvey said. “I know it’s a great honor to play in this game and I’m very excited to have another game of football to look forward to during my high school career. I’m looking forward to meeting all of the other players and getting a little introduction into the life of a college football player.”

Harvey will carry the torch for many Rochelle football players who have participated in the Shrine Game activities over the last several years including James Porter, Matt Albers, Greg Ricketts, William Jandak, Charlie Jandak and his brother Alex. The weeklong event begins with Media Day and team practices on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Additional activities include team visits to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

The Shriners of Illinois Players Cookout and the Central Illinois Miracle League Baseball Game will take place on Thursday, June 17, 2021. The week concludes with the Event Banquet at the Shirk Center on Friday, June 18, 2021 and the Shrine Game, which begins Saturday at 11 a.m.

“I think the experience will give me the confidence I need to stick out during my freshman year of college,” said Harvey, who has committed to playing football at Washington University in St. Louis. “I think the experience will help me get situated with playing around new people.”
