STILLMAN VALLEY — Lady Hub senior Abby Luxton was slowed down with an ankle injury before this season, but the 6-foot-1 forward looked healthy and confident when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team faced Stillman Valley on the road Monday evening.

Luxton recorded the first double-double of her senior season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Lady Hubs outlasted the Cardinals 43-39 to snap a two-game losing streak. Rochelle improved to 4-6 overall with the victory.

“I’ve lacked the confidence to play basketball since my ankle injury and it was hard to do everything I used to do when I first came back,” Luxton said. “But I had the mindset during the game that it was going to be my game. I really wanted to win and do the best I could for my team.”

Senior Josie Lundquist added eight points for the Lady Hubs on Monday, while sophomore Alivia Henkel scored seven points. Luxton said her positioning on the floor played a key role in her success Monday. She'll look to build on her strong performance when the Lady Hubs face Indian Creek on the road Wednesday.

“Being at the top of the floor, I was able to make quick passes out to my teammates and make quick cuts,” Luxton said. “It’s a big confidence booster for us. I’m feeling really confident in our team this season. I haven’t had much a role since I’ve been out, but I think my role moving forward will be to score and rebound the ball.”

The Rochelle Lady Hub JV basketball team also secured a win on Monday, defeating Stillman Valley 22-13 and reaching 9-1 on the season. Sophomore Sydney Tabor led the Lady Hubs with 11 points and six steals, while sophomore Kennedy Adamski and freshman Abby Metzger were strong on the boards for Rochelle.

“Watching this team come together and improve each game has been a huge win as a coach,” head coach Katie Roush said. “Starting the season with a 9-1 record is a huge accomplishment.”
