Rochelle finishes 0-3 over three games in Evergreen Park

EVERGREEN PARK — Rochelle Little League’s 10U Softball All-Stars traveled to Evergreen Park for the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament over the weekend. Rochelle played two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday, finishing 0-3 in the state tournament.

The team includes Annalyce Harris, Brynn Stinnett, Chloe Streit, Gennelle Hernandez, Grace Olson, Isabel Jackson, Izabella King, Kate Keller, Lilyan Erickson, Madelynn McRoberts, Natalie Isley, Rose Elston, Rosalina Bugarin and Zoey Harris. The team is coached by James Jackson, Shannon Bybee, Rudy Nambo and Adam Erickson.

Elmhurst

Rochelle’s state tournament began with a 14-0 loss against Elmhurst on Saturday. Madelynn McRoberts, Annalyce Harris and Isabel Jackson each threw one inning for the 10U All-Stars, with McRoberts and Harris each striking out one batter. Brynn Stinnett drew one walk.

Elmhurst held a 9-0 lead after tallying nine runs on one triple, one single, three walks and three hit batters in the bottom of the first inning. Two singles sparked a three-run frame for Elmhurst in the bottom of the second inning. Elmhurst sealed its win with two runs in the bottom of the third.

Rushville

Rochelle concluded Saturday’s action with a 10-0 loss against Rushville. Annalyce Harris went 1-for-2 with a single and two stolen bases, while Natalie Isley drew one walk and totaled two stolen bases. Isley pitched all four innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing just three hits.

Rushville took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on three walks, one triple and one fielder’s choice grounder. A grand slam in the top of the second inning sparked a six-run rally for Rushville. Both teams went scoreless over the third and fourth innings.

Peru

Rochelle bowed out of the state tournament with a 13-3 loss against Peru on Sunday. Natalie Isley went 1-for-2 with one triple, while Annalyce Harris stole two bases and both Izabella King and Madelynn McRoberts stole one base. Isley struck out eight batters over six innings pitched.

Two walks and two singles enabled Peru to command a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Rochelle answered in the bottom of the first inning, tying the score after Annalyce Harris and Madelynn McRoberts each crossed home plate on wild pitches. Izabella King drew a lead-off walk before scoring on a wild pitch to put Rochelle ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning.

Four singles ignited a two-run rally for the Peru side in the top of the third inning. Peru extended its lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring six runs on five singles and three walks. Leading 10-3, Peru clinched its win with three runs on two doubles and two singles in the top of the fifth inning.
